The Ontario Mathematics Olympics (OMO) is an annual competition for grade 7 and 8 students, organized by the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME). Each chapter of the OAME sponsors 1, 2 or 3 teams to represent them at the provincial finals which is held at a different location around the province each year. The teams for each chapter are usually the winners in a local contest. Contact your local OMO coordinator for more details. Each team entering the OMO must consist of two grade 7 students, two grade 8 students, of which there are two boys and two girls (in whatever combination makes sense). This year's provincial finals (OMO 2014) will be held at the Orillia Campus of Lakehead University (500 University Avenue, ORILLIA, ON, L3V 0B9). This brand new eco-friendly campus is set in a spacious setting on the outskirts of the city and has a brand new residence where the mathletes and their coaches will sleep over night, and a a state of the art academic building where the majority of the contests will be held. Teams are expected to arrive around 3:30pm or shortly thereafter on Friday May 30th. Registration, team chants, and unpacking will occur before supper which will be served at 5pm. After dinner on Friday night there will be a massive math mystery activity. The official contest itself is held on Saturday May 31st, beginning right after breakfast. There are four events- Individual Contest, Pairs Contest, Group Problem Solving contest, and the Team Relay to end off the competition. The awards ceremony is scheduled to occur at 3:30pm, and everyone should be on their way by 4pm if all goes well. The organizing committee is looking forward to hosting this year's events. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the co-chairs at OMO2014@oame.on.ca
