President's Message - March 2010

Time flies when you are having fun!

BEVERLY FARAHANI

farahanib@limestone.on.ca

It is hard to believe that my journey as president is almost over and that this will be my final president's message. The year has gone by quickly. I would like to thank everyone for their enduring support. Your impact can never fully be articulated!

We all make a very big difference in the lives of our students. We may never realize what impact we have had. We are the ones who are there with students on their mathematical journey. Some may stay closer to home, while others will travel to mathematical places we have never been. Hopefully, wherever their journey takes them, students are well on their way to a lifetime of learning.

We can be a role model for this. By participating in professional development, attending a conference or even taking a course, students (and parents) can see that we, too, have a love of learning. You shouldn't be surprised when a parent approaches you to say congratulations on your completion of a professional development course. (Yes, we are a topic of conversation at home!) They know that their children will benefit from our newfound knowledge. Our students will look forward to working on some new idea we have had the chance to play with. They also appreciate knowing that it is good to be out of our comfort zone when trying something new. As you proceed through your mathematical path in life, remember "Life is a journey not a guided tour".
